Malaysian teens are at great risk of taking suicide into consideration in this era. Modernization and globalization all around the world made it easy for the Malaysian culture to get immensely influenced by the western culture. Western culture has weaker family bonds rather than eastern culture. Within past few decades, women empowerment has become very strong in this country and both genders are working side by side to develop the society.

Most of the Malaysian children are bound to be left at the day care most of the day.  Tired parents cannot bond much with the child at the rest of the hours they spend together. Children lose mental touch and connection from the parents gradually. Now-a-days all Malaysian kids are seem to own smart phones and smart tablets and always playing video games or watching videos from YouTube. Even if parents may try to monitor their activities on the internet, it is impossible to monitor them 24/7 and keep him safe from every unethical content if the child does not possess basic moral values.

This generation is definitely much smarter than the previous ones by being born in a digitalized era. Children being on the smart gadgets all the time make them involved more with the virtual world rather than the real one. Even little bit of western breeze can effect broadly into their small, young minds. Suicide is more popular in the first world countries which made the countries to take more serious measures about it. They have emergency helplines and hundreds of thousands counselling opportunities. As Malaysia's suicide tendency among teens are a rising issue, this country should follow the first world countries in terms of taking serious measures.

One astounding case of attempted suicide by Katie Stubblefield can open people's eyes about how destructive this social issue is. She was a cheerful little girl. One fine morning she shot her own face with a revolver gun. Only because her boyfriend dumped her. She was saved by the emergency health unit. But her face was not recognizable. After several surgeries doctors finally were able to restore her face to a certain extent. She talked to several journalists and said that she's got a second chance in life which she's forever grateful for. She admits that It was a silly thing to harm own self for over such a small matter. But she thinks that she had very low self-esteem that if her boyfriend leaves her, her world would fall apart and didn’t know what to do with her life.

After a breakup, not only teens, adults also find it hard to regain interest in life. Some of them take a break from regular life and goes for a vacation or eats loads of ice-cream. But young girls with zero self-actualization and self-worth fails to do that.

Young people should be taught about their value and worth and how much they are loved so that they can’t get defeated by the battle between choosing life or death. A famous quote by Anne frank, "Dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude.” teaches us show people love and gratitude before It's too late. Some usual causes of depression & anxiety among young people are due to,

  •  Imbalance of chemicals in the brain that signals emotions.
  • Unhealed early childhood trauma
  • Substance abuse like alcohol, cocaine, weed

Many online counselling therapies are available in Malaysia. Malaysian teens who are facing any mental health problems related to depression, exhaustion, anxiety, OCD, relationship and hope can contact any of the websites listed below;

a)  Dr. Safe Hands

b) Betterhelp

c) International Psychology Centre

d) INPSYCH Psychological and Counselling Services

Some young people fail at ending their lives and continue their lives as suicide survivors. They are often sheltered in juvenile rehabilitation centers where they can realize their mistakes and increase self-confidence. Parents become more caring, loving and attentive towards those children. But not everyone gets a second chance like them. Families which lose their most loving member might have their eyes opened up but completely unable to turn the time back.

Young people are the leaders of the future. They should be nurtured and cared for in a way that they can take care of themselves in hardest of times and can deal with failure in positive ways. If these young minds are not protected well, there's a possibility of the whole generation going into astray and depressive. They have to be taught that dying is easy anyone can do that but staying alive, fighting against all the pain, negativity and hardship is the most difficult thing to do. Only the strong, independent ones can do it. Everyone is sent in this world by the creator with a purpose. Everyone has responsibility towards their families and the society. Young minds should be nurtured from the earliest ages so that they can always choose only life hundreds and thousands of times over death.
